Jerome T. Detviler, age 61, died Jan. 2 at home in Cottage Grove.

Celebration of Jerome's life Friday, Jan. 6, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 7000 Hinton Ave. S., Cottage Grove. Visitation 12:30-2:30 p.m. with service immediately following. Memorials preferred to ReinInSarcoma.org or University of MN Masonic Cancer Center.

JD was a standout teacher, a stand out person, and a big part of many of my happiest high school memories - the XC ski team, his Poli Sci class, etc... It was clear to me and everyone else that he truly enjoyed his job and genuinely liked and respected kids. Given his gift for teaching, his wonderful, good-natured sense of humor and his charismatic personality, its no wonder he was so universally loved! My sincere condolences to the family - only wish I had been able to return to MN for the services so I could express my feelings personally.
