Esther Gardner, 101

Esther Gardner died Sat., Aug. 20, 2011, at Sioux Falls, S.D.

Esther M. Bell was born 101 years ago, on Oct. 11, 1909, at Doland, S.D. She graduated from Doland High School and attended Stewart's Academy of Hair Design in Minneapolis, Minn. She married Arnold Gardner on Aug. 15, 1937, and they lived in Huron, S.D, before moving to Cottage Grove in 1969. They retired to Madison in 1997. He died Nov. 24, 1997.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Ann (Bob) Jensen-Miller of Madison, S.D.; two sons, Bruce (Mary Jo) Gardner of Leesburg, Va., and L. Neal (Kim) Gardner of Hamel, Minn.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Melvin Bell of Denver, Colo.

Memorial services were 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Ellsworth Funeral Home, Madison, S.D., with burial at Doland Cemetery.
