Students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Solar Electric Vehicle Team visiting the 3M Innovation Center in Cottage Grove took an unplanned test drive on the site’s track Friday, June 12. 3M donated about $25,000 worth of supplies — some of them manufactured right at the Cottage Grove site — to the team to create its latest solar vehicle. The group was on an informational tour of the site when members spotted the long, empty straightaway available and asked if they could use it.
