Ice rescue practice

The Cottage Grove Fire Department practiced ice rescues off Grey Cloud Island on Jan. 29. Rescue Specialists, an ice rescue training company, supervised the training, according to deputy fire chief Rick Redenius. Firefighters — divided into two groups — spent three hours in the classroom, then three hours doing practical exercises on the ice and in the water. Firefighters shown are P.J. McMahon, Ron Reische and Redenius. Redenius said a rescuer can be in the water as long as they are comfortable and not feeling cold. The city owns four

coldwater suits. (Submitted photo)
