Oltman Middle School in St. Paul Park is hosting a parent night devoted to helping eighth grade students prepare for high school and thinking ahead to college. The event will be held from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Students and parents may choose four of seven breakout sessions, with each session lasting approximately 15 minutes. Topics will include high school registration, the International Baccalaureate program at Park High School, Project Lead the Way at East Ridge High School, College and Career Readiness and EXPLORE test information. “This event will be an outstanding opportunity for students and parents to establish a clear plan for high school—one that serves as a road map to a student’s post-secondary goal,” said Oltman principal Becky Schroeder. “Parents and students will be able to get a lot of information about the high school registration process and specific programs at East Ridge and Park. Parents will be able to learn more about their student’s academic strengths and career interests, which will help focus their post-secondary roadmap.” Also available during the event, Oltman’s AVID program will provide information on more than 50 two- and four-year colleges, including general tuition cost, entrance criteria and general courses of study.
