Campfire stories: hawks, bird banding

naturalist from the Warner Nature Center will present a campfire program on red-tailed hawks at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Join Jim Fitzpatrick, director of the Carpenter Valley Nature Center and a licensed bird bander, to learn about banding native songbirds at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park in Denmark Township. Watch as he sets up devices to capture the local songbirds and then studies them, marks and releases them back into the forest. Find out why they are important to people and what information they reveal. Open to all ages and abilities. Lake Elmo Park Reserve is located at the intersection of County Roads 19 and 10, one mile north of Interstate 94, in Lake Elmo. St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park runs along the St. Croix River on County Road 21, between County Roads 76 and 78. Both programs are free; parking is $5.
