A Cottage Grove woman was charged with theft last week for allegedly embezzling $4,000 from Kentucky Fried Chicken in Cottage Grove while she was employed there.
Sheng Her, 19, allegedly entered promotional codes on full-price orders from the drive-through and then pocketed the difference.
Her admitted to the restaurant’s parent company in a signed statement, and later to police, that she had stolen money by falsely representing that customers had presented coupons. She told police that she stole approximately $50 to $100 per day, according to the complaint filed in Washington County District Court. She denied stealing the $4,575 that an asset protection manager for the restaurant’s parent company Border Foods alleges she took, according to the complaint.
She allegedly stole the money between October and December of 2007, according to the complaint. Her sparked suspicion when an internal audit showed that an abnormally large number of coupon discounts were generated when Her worked as a shift manager and that most of the coupons were entered at the drive-up register by Her.
Her was charged May 20 with one count of theft, which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years and fine of $10,000.
