Letter: Why so much turnover?

There seems to be an excessive turnover rate within the Newport Police Department. Starting salaries and benefits are competitive, so what’s the problem?

There seems to be an excessive turnover rate within the Newport Police Department. Starting salaries and benefits are competitive, so what’s the problem? We no more than get a new officer trained (at Newport’s expense) and he’s off to a neighboring community. I feel I am more than qualified to comment on the afore mentioned problem since I have employed hundreds of employees during the course of my career. As a rule, it’s not the money. Here is my suggestion: management seminars are available.
