The East Ridge boys basketball team improved to 16-4 on the year with a pair of wins last week.
The Raptors beat Suburban East Conference foe Hastings 65-55 on Thursday, Feb. 7, at East Ridge, before taking down non-conference opponent St. Michael-Albertville by the same score, 65-55, on Saturday in Woodbury.
East Ridge (16-4; 9-3) struggled with Hastings, which is last place in the SEC and was coming off a loss to Park that ended the Wolfpack’s 68-game conference losing streak. The Raptors had a 25-19 lead at the half and the Raiders (2-16; 1-11 SEC) hung around for the remainder. East Ridge outscored Hastings 40-36 in the second half to avoid the upset.
Four different players scored in double figures for East Ridge. Junior forward Brian Ishola had a game-high 14 points. Senior Conrad Sexe and sophomore guard Sid Tomes each netted 13 points and junior Xavier Cole scored 12 points.
St. Michael-Albertville (11-9) provided another test for the Raptors. East Ridge was able to take a 33-26 lead at the break and held on, outscoring the Knights 32-29 in the second half. Ishola led the way with a game-high 15 points. Cole, Tomes and junior center Ryan Keenan each scored 10 points.
East Ridge battled Forest Lake (8-12; 4-8 SEC) on Tuesday, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Raptors head to Mounds View High School to tip-off with the Mustangs (10-10; 5-7 SEC) on Friday. The game starts at 7:15 p.m.
