The youthful East Ridge girls hockey team fell to 0-4 to start the 2012-13 season with a pair of non-conference losses to Eagan and Apple Valley last week.
After losing 6-0 to Shakopee and 7-0 to North St. Paul to start the season, the Raptors suffered a third-straight lopsided loss, 6-0 to Eagan – which was ranked 10th in Class AA at the end of last year – on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Bielenberg Sports Complex, before playing Apple Valley close on Thursday, Nov. 15, falling 3-1.
In the loss to Eagan, the Wildcats (1-0) built a 1-0 first-period lead, then took the game over with four goals in the second period. East Ridge goalie Katie Flanders made 28 saves in the defeat.
In the Raptors’ game versus Apple Valley (2-1), the two teams played the first two periods scoreless. East Ridge took the lead, 1-0, 2 minutes, 40 seconds into the third period on a goal by Jessie Anderson – the Raptors’ first goal of the year – with an assist going to Hannah Johnson.
However, with 6:31 left in the game, Apple Valley’s Emily Everson tied it up 1-1. Then, Apple Valley’s Jordyn Haupert made it 2-1 just over four minutes later. With just 23 seconds left on the clock, the Eagles’ Rachel Goodman scored to make it 3-1, ending East Ridge’s bid for its first win.
Flanders had 30 saves in the loss for the Raptors.
East Ridge opened Suburban East Conference play on Tuesday at White Bear Lake (2-1) after the Bulletin went to press. Next, the Raptors face off with Stillwater (1-0-1) at Bielenberg on Thursday.
