The East Ridge boys golf team played a double-header of sorts last Monday and earned one of its best-ever finishes.
East Ridge took first place in a Suburban East Conference tournament on Monday, May 7, at Stillwater Country Club, scoring a 318 – edging Cretin-Derham Hall (319) and Hastings (321).
East Ridge juniors Brady Hanson and Tyler Fitzsimmons led the way for the Raptors with matching 78s on the par-72 course. Also, senior Jaik Winbush shot a 79 and juniors Tom Tuohy and Logan Delaney each carded 83s to round out the Raptors’ scoring four.
Stillwater’s Sammy Sicard and Bennett Anderson tied for medalist honors along with Forest Lake’s Max Kelly and Mounds View’s Ryan Parise, who each shot 76.
The conference match came hours after the team played in the Don Saatzer Invitational on Monday at Hastings Country Club.
In the tournament, East Ridge’s split squad placed seventh out of nine teams with a 339. Hastings won its own invite with a 306. Individually, for the Raptors, sophomore Nick Redmon led the way with an 83. Fellow sophomore Alec Tostenrud carded the Raptors’ second-best score with an 84 and junior Shane Johnson and freshman Matt Zyblicki each shot 86 to round out East Ridge’s top four. Burnsville’s Evan Munyon earned medalist honors with a 71.
Next, East Ridge is at an invitational tournament in Albert Lea on Friday and Saturday as it gears up for the Suburban East Conference Championship Tournament, which will be held Wednesday, May 23, at Keller Golf Course in St. Paul.
