Non-conference foe Simley dealt the New Life boys basketball team a 48-22 loss in its 2010-11 season opener on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Simley.
Junior forward Alex Hieser, senior forward James Housworth and senior center Sam Berg each had eight points in the loss for the youthful Eagles. Junior forward Dillon Kaup led the way for Simley (1-0) with a game-high 16 points in the win.
However, the Eagles (1-1) bounced back to beat non-conference opponent St. Paul Humboldt 54-51 on Friday, Dec. 10, at New Life Academy, in the team’s home opener.
Despite 30 turnovers, New Life Academy was able to hit some free throws down the stretch to get the victory. Berg’s 13 points and 12 rebounds led the team while Cody Linton added 10 points and Dan Otto chipped in with nine points and 5 rebounds.
New Life Academy took on conference foe Concordia Academy of Roseville on Tuesday, Dec. 14, after the Bulletin went to print.
Next, the Eagles travel to Mahtomedi to play the Zephyrs on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
