Kids Club program receives accreditation

The District 833 Kids Club program has cleared a major hurtle now that it has received accreditation from the National AfterSchool Association.

Kids Club is a child care program before or after school in each elementary building and provides care to children k-6. Children can participate in a variety of activities such as arts, crafts, games, science, computers, physical activities and quiet time. Currently there are 1,500 students enrolled in the Kids Club program at all district elementary schools.

In order to receive accreditation, Kids Club staff had to revise and revamp a lot of their current offering as well as add new ones, such as a new quiet area and reading area. The accreditation process look the entire 2007-2008 school year, September to May.

Even though becoming accredited by the NAA is required, becoming accredited does hold many benefits to a program. Some of thee benefits include, sustained program improvement, quality programs, and creates a high quality staff.

“We will continue to keep looking for ways to improve,” Holly Yannarelly of Red Rock Elementary said.
