Newly-elected Washington County Commissioner Lisa Weik hit the ground running Tuesday as she was sworn in before her first county board meeting.

Traditionally, a county commissioner would not begin a new term until January 1, but Weik, who represents Woodbury resident in District 5, started her term just two weeks after she won a special election for the seat.

Weik will serve out the remainder of the four-year term of former commissioner Greg Orth, who died in an accident in January.

Dick Stafford was appointed by the county board to fill the vacancy until a new commissioner was elected.

Judge Elizabeth Martin administered the oath of office to Weik before the start of the Tuesday county board meeting.

Commissioners Dennis Hegberg and Gary Kriesel, who won their re-election bids, will begin their new terms in January.
