Underage drinking and driving

A traffic stop for speeding led to alcohol and drug citations. A police officer stopped a vehicle shortly before midnight Feb. 28 at Jamaica Avenue and Military Road. The driver, a 17-year-old Cottage Grove female, was found to be in possession of an open bottle and drug paraphernalia. She was cited for those infractions and for underage drinking and driving.

Assault

A Cottage Grove man was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his wife, according to police. A 43-year-old woman called police Feb. 26 to report that her husband, 57-year-old Phillip D. Willis, threatened to beat and kill her. Willis was arrested and booked into Washington County jail on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault.

Amy L. Williamson, 40, Cottage Grove, was arrested on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault for allegedly hitting her 18-year-old Cottage Grove son in the face during an incident at a home in the 7800 block of Hearthside Avenue She was booked into Washington County jail.

A 14-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for assault March 4 after punching a 13-year-old Cottage Grove male at Cottage Grove Middle School, 9775 Indian Blvd.

Theft

A Cottage Grove man reported Feb. 22 that he left a package ($130 value) outside his home in the 7300 block of Burr Oak Avenue to be picked up by the postal service, but it was stolen.

A Cottage Grove man reported Feb. 23 that a bag containing two bowling balls was stolen ($380 loss) stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 8700 block of Grenadier Avenue.

A 22-year-old Newport man was cited for shoplifting Feb. 23 after he tried to steal a bottle of vodka from G-Will Liquors, 6990 80th St.

An employee at Arby’s restaurant, 7185 East Point Douglas Road, reported Feb. 24 that $60 was taken from her purse by an unknown person.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Feb. 25 that a 42-inch TV was stolen from an apartment in the 7800 block of Hearthside Ave. Loss: $338.

A 16-year-old Newport female was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft on Feb. 26 after she allegedly took a purse from a locker room at Park High School. The purse was returned.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Feb. 26 that she saw a group of kids remove mail from a mailbox at a home near Imperial and Iden avenues.

An adult male reported March 2 that someone stole a custom-built gaming computer and parts ($800 value) from a vehicle parked at Wakota Inn and Suites, 7125 80th St.

A Cottage Grove man reported March 2 that tools and personal items valued at approximately $685 were taken from the garage in the 7700 block of Hinton Avenue.

Police were called to Menard’s, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, on March 3 for a theft report. A female suspect stole items valued at $130. She has not been arrested, but police are investigating whether she was involved in other area thefts, according to the report.

A student reported March 4 that a cellphone was stolen at the District 833 Alternative Learning Center, 8400 East Point Douglas Road.

An adult male stole $5 from the tip jar at Caribou Coffee, 7145 East Point Douglas Road, on March 5 and then ran out the door. He was not located.

A Cottage Grove Middle School student reported March 4 that a cellphone valued at $300 was stolen. The phone was later recovered.

A Hastings man was arrested for theft at Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, on March 6. Edward L. Mears, 20, allegedly stole $392 worth of merchandise, according to police. He was booked into Washington County jail.

A Cottage Grove woman reported March 7 that $800 was missing from her residence in the 8100 block of Jasmine Avenue. There was no sign of forced entry.

Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft on March 7. Two customers were allegedly switching price tags. Both were released pending further police investigation.
