Cottage Grove police reports for March 1: Theft, drugs, property damage

Recent criminal activity reported in Cottage Grove.

Property damage

Police were called to an apartment complex at 8130 East Point Douglas Road on Feb. 16 on a report that a garage door handle was damaged.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Feb. 18 that a window was shot out of a vehicle parked in the 8100 block of Jergen Avenue. No damage estimate listed. The owner thought it was hit with a BB.

Theft

A Cottage Grove man reported Feb. 15 that a state Department of Transportation placard was stolen from a work truck parked in the 7800 block of Janero Avenue.

A 12-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for stealing jewelry Feb. 15 from Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Avenue.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Feb. 16 that three home association lights were damaged at the corner of 65th Street and Hedgecroft Avenue. The loss was valued at $500.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Feb. 17 that a bicycle valued at $380 was stolen from a garage in the 7100 block of Jewel Avenue. There was no sign of forced entry.

A Cottage Grove woman reported Feb. 15 that a few dollars in change was taken from an unlocked vehicle in the 6300 block of 83rd Street.

A gas station at 7033 Jorgensen Lane reported a shoplifting incident Feb. 18. A 17-year-old Cottage Grove female was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft.

Police were called to a home in the 9700 block of Dunes Avenue on Feb. 18. Copper pipe valued at $10 had been stolen form the home.

Curfew, drug referral

Three 16-year-old Cottage Grove males and a 15-year-old Cottage Grove male were referred to the Youth Service bureau for a curfew violation and possessing drug paraphernalia after they were found in a vehicle in the Hillside Elementary School parking lot at 1 a.m. Feb. 16.

Pedestrian accident

An 18-year-old Cottage Grove man was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul after he was struck by a car shortly before 3 p.m. Feb. 17 at the intersection at 80th Street and Hardwood Avenue. The pedestrian was not following the traffic sign. He did not suffer serious injuries, according to the report. The driver was not cited.

Suspicious activity

A Cottage Grove man called police on Feb. 19 to report that a group of juveniles were smoking marijuana in his garage in the 8800 block of 92nd Street. The youths left before police arrived. They were believed to be friends of the man’s son, according to the report.
