Newport police reports for Feb. 20

Recent criminal activity reported in Newport.

Theft

A woman called police Jan. 29 to report that house keys were stolen from inside a home in the 1800 block of Third Avenue. She suspected an appliance delivery man who had been in the home. A police officer there to take the report found the keys under a microwave on a kitchen counter.

A Newport man reported Jan. 31 that someone stole a Honda generator valued at $2,000 from a business in the 100 block of Seventh Avenue. Police have a suspect and criminal charges are pending.

SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., reported a $30 gas drive-off on Feb. 7. A 40-year-old Goodhue man was cited for theft.

Threats

A 23-year-old Newport man was cited for driving after revocation and disorderly conduct on Feb. 1 after clerks at SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., reported that the man and another male were in the store and yelling obscenities at two female clerks, even after they were ordered to leave the store.

Mental health

Police transported a Newport woman to Regions Hospital on Feb. 7 for an evaluation after police were called to a residence on a report that the woman had consumed all the pills in the home.
