Park wrestling: Wolfpack splits pair at final home meet

Park beat Cretin-Derham Hall and fell to Forest Lake in a Suburban East Conference triangular on Thursday, Feb. 7, in the Wolfpack’s last home meet of the year.
Park beat Cretin-Derham Hall 50-15 and lost 47-20 to Forest Lake.
Against the Raiders, Park won four matches with pins, three forfeits and one decision.
Winning with pins for Park was: seventh-grader Garret Whitehead at 106 pounds, freshman Collin LaBrosse at 113 pounds, sophomore Jake Lanik at 138 pounds and sophomore Nick Craton at 170 pounds. At 160 pounds, sophomore Brandon Young won a 13-7 decision. Junior Austin Thurmes, sophomore Dan Duval, junior David Giadyu and freshman Zach Wills won by forfeit.
In the loss to Forest Lake, LaBrosse and sophomore Cory Flaata – at 170 pounds – each won with pins, while Giadyu won a 26-11 decision at 145 pounds and Wills won 1-0 at 182 pounds.
Next up for Park is the Section 3AA team and individual tournaments, where the Wolfpack wrestlers will battle for state qualification.
The team portion of the Section 3AAA Tournament takes place Friday, Feb. 15 at Henry Sibley High School. The individual section tourney will be Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23 at Burnsville.
