Park wrestling: Wolfpack fall 38-30 to Mounds View

The Park wrestling team lost another close one last week.

The Wolfpack fell 38-30 to Suburban East Conference foe Mounds View on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Mounds View High School.

Park lost four of the first five matches, but battled back with four straight victories to take a 24-15 lead before ultimately losing the match to the Mustangs.

“The slow start cost us and their upper weights were too much for us to handle,” Park head coach Jim LaBrosse said.

In the match, Park freshman Collin LaBrosse won with a pin at 113 pounds and is now 25-6 on the year. Also, junior David Giadyu won with a pin at 138 pounds to improve to 25-7, sophomore Cory Flaata won with a pin at 160 pounds to improve to 23-10 and freshman Zach Wills pinned his opponent at 195 pounds to up his record to 16-9 on the year.

Other winners against Mounds View included sophomore Jake Lanik, who earned an 8-3 decision at 145 pounds and sophomore Brandon Young, who won 4-0 at 152 pounds.

Park is now 3-4 in the SEC and 5-12 overall.

Next, the Wolfpack is at home for the last time this season when the team hosts Forest Lake and Cretin-Derham Hall on Thursday, Feb. 7. The triangular begins at 5 p.m.
