Tight-lipped film crew shoots movie scenes in Cottage Grove

A film crew is shooting exterior scenes in the Cottage Grove area.

Perhaps the only people who were happy on the coldest day of the season last week were in Old Cottage Grove shooting exterior shots for a movie.

An independent film company from Texas paid a location fee to the Cottage Grove United Church of Christ to use the church as a base camp for three days.

Filmmakers wanted a very cold and windy day in a rural landscape. After shooting in the area near 70th Street and Lamar Avenue, the crew packed up and moved on to Afton for more filming.

The company had handed out fliers at North Pole Restaurant in Newport asking for volunteers for walk-on roles and several were selected, said the producers, who would not disclose the name of the movie or production company.

Cottage Grove city officials said Tuesday the crew was shooting scenes again this week, including near Manning Avenue and 100th Street.
