It’s over.
The Park boys basketball team snapped a 68-game Suburban East Conference losing streak with a 55-54 overtime win at Hastings on Friday.
Down nine points at the half, the youthful Wolfpack rallied in the second half, outscoring the Raiders 27-18 after the break to force an extra frame. In overtime, Park outscored Hastings 10-9 to earn the opportunity to celebrate in Hastings’ gym.
The win was the biggest by Park in some time. The Wolfpack’s last conference win came in 2008-09 season – the year before East Ridge High School opened – with a 63-61 victory over White Bear Lake on Feb. 20, 2009.
Park has only two seniors on its roster – Mike Broskoff and Trocon Barclay – and fields six juniors and five sophomores.
Nine different players scored for Park in the win. Three players led the way with 11 points each – sophomores Anthony Juba and Connor Kvendru and junior Ryan Klika.
