The Park dance team competed in a meet at Simley High School on Saturday, Jan. 26, and once again obtained season-long goals.
“Our two varsity teams danced the best performance of the season,” said head coach Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger.
Park took fourth place in the varsity Jazz/Funk competition and earned third place in the varsity Kick contest.
“Varsity Jazz set out to eliminate 3’s, stay confident, and not let mistakes pile up creating a ‘vortex’ effect. Doing all of that, the team never stopped pushing their skills during practice and showed a real drive to hit every move,” Hemmingsen-Jaeger said. “Varsity Kick really brought their ‘A’ game yesterday. The team banned together and had the mindset to do their best and reach their goals - getting third place and eliminating all 4’s. With great crowd support, the team did their best performance yet. It was truly exciting to watch.”
In addition, Park’s JV Jazz/Funk team earned eighth place overall in its very first competition.
“They only had six weeks to learn and clean the dance and the scores did not reflect that,” Hemmingsen-Jaeger said. “The team competed against seasoned JV teams and definitely held their own. The team went out there confident and showed everyone what a small JV team can do.”
Park’s varsity team now prepares for its last competition – The section tournament at Bloomington-Kennedy High School on Saturday, Feb. 9.
For all three teams, the coaches see improvements every week and are proud of all the dancers.
“We know that we haven’t peaked yet and are excited to see what the teams bring in two weeks at sections,” said Hemmingsen-Jaeger.
