Newport police reports for Jan. 30: Suspicious activity, burglary, theft

Recently reported criminal activity in Newport.

Suspicious activity

Police were called Dec. 15 to the vacant Knox building at 2222 Maxwell Ave., after a caller reported seeing two people on top of the building near the air conditioning units. Police did not locate anyone in the area.

A Newport woman living in the 900 block of Ellen Court reported Dec. 21 that someone tampered with her husband’s vehicle while it was parked near their unattached garage.

Burglary

A Newport juvenile reported Dec. 30 that someone broke into his family’s home and stole items. Police did not release the address of the home or a description of items stolen, citing the active investigation.

A Newport woman reported Dec. 31 that someone broke into her apartment in the 1400 block of 10th Avenue twice and stole items. The case is under investigation.

Theft

SuperAmerica gas station, 1624 Hastings Ave., reported a $46 gas drive-off on Dec. 16. The gas station reported a $26 drive-off on Dec. 21 and a $56 drive-off on Dec. 22.

A Newport woman reported Dec. 20 that a socket set and other property were stolen from two cars parked in the 2100 block of Circle Drive.

A Golden Valley man reported Dec. 31 that a ring was stolen while his vehicle was in Newport. The ring, valued at more than $1,000, was found at a Minneapolis pawn shop.
