Letter to editor: McNamara feeding constituents "political cow"
Reader thanks lawmaker for "history lesson"
I would like to thank Rep. Denny McNamara for his history lesson of the last two years in the Minnesota Legislature. He sent it out last week in his newsletter. He also sent it out to this paper a few weeks ago. He’s telling us how he and his GOP co-workers did such a good job balancing the $6 billion budget deficit without raising taxes and he hopes the DFL would do the same now that they are in charge.
You can’t take dollars from schools and count that as revenue. You borrowed that money so now the DFL has to clean up one of your messes and pay it back.
Then you took money from future tobacco bonds. Borrowing that money, with interest way in the future. Is that good policy? That’s not revenue either.
Is that how you ran your small business? We have heard that mantra for years. I guess it doesn’t apply to the last two years.
Try this: define the role of government, and then fully fund it.
That giant new bridge going up in Hastings is the best thing to happen in south Washington County in years. You and your votes did nothing to help push that construction up years.
You said in your newsletter that you want to fight for us. I do think you got it wrong; if you want to fight go to Brunette’s Boxing Gym in St. Paul. You need to work on your deportment. The stories about how you treated fellow Minnesota citizens in committee is deplorable. Compromise and smile work best.
You and your buddies shut down government for three weeks; that is a nice touch. You tried to change the Minnesota Constitution; you lost that one. You tried to push ALEC ideas down our throats all session. You still think you did a good job. All that matters is the voters across this state tossed a lot of the GOP out of both houses. You lost. We did not like the way you did your job. Stop feeding us all of that political cow.
