Three standouts from the East Ridge football team will get to show what they can do on a national stage this week.
Center J.C. Hassenauer and tight end George Behr, both seniors-to-be next season, as well as quarterback Seth Green, a sophomore-to-be, were invited to participate in this week’s U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio.
The trio headed to Texas to participate with 500 of the best high school football players from around the country. Last year, only five players from the entire state were invited to the event.
Both Hassenauer and Behr are considered among the top in-state prospects at their positions in the Class of 2014. Both are two-year starters who were named All-Conference last season. Hassenauer was named the Suburban East Conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Year and was named to the Star Tribune’s All-Metro Second Team.
Green, as a freshman, set several school records this fall, including single season passing yards and touchdowns. He played in all 10 games this season, leading the Raptors to the Section 5AAAAA championship game.
Hassenauer was a captain this past season and will be again in 2013. Green was also chosen by his teammates as a captain for 2013.
The U.S. Army National Combine is specifically designed to highlight the football abilities and talents of today’s rising underclassmen and tomorrow’s future high school, college and NFL stars.
The three-day event, held annually in association with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, is the first opportunity for the nation’s top underclassmen to demonstrate their physical talent and compete against one another amongst high school and college football’s top scouting organizations, as well as the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, which features Rivals.com.
Modeled after the NFL combine, all combine tests and competitive drills will take place in the Alamodome. Athletes will receive apparel and gear at the event. In addition, athletes will receive lunch, bus transportation, and a ticket to attend the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
U.S. Army National Combine alumni include: Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Ted Ginn, Jr. (San Francisco 49ers), Percy Harvin (Minnesota Vikings), Colt McCoy (Cleveland Browns), Patrick Peterson (Arizona Cardinals), Matt Stafford (Detroit Lions), and Tim Tebow (New York Jets).
East Ridge will open the 2013 season Aug. 29 at home against White Bear Lake.
