Cottage Grove police reports for Dec. 21: Burglary, drunken driving, food complaint, assault
Recent reported criminal activity in Cottage Grove.
Burglary
A homeowner in the 7700 block of Hinton Avenue reported Nov. 23 that someone broke into the home through an unlocked door and stole a stereo, computer and jewelry valued at a total of $13,000. No suspects were identified. The burglary happened when nobody was home, according to the report.
A homeowner in the 8900 block of Ironwood Avenue reported Nov. 25 that someone broke into the home and stole a 50-inch plasma TV valued at $500. No suspects were identified.
A homeowner reported Nov. 27 that someone tried to break into a garage at an apartment complex at 8130 East Point Douglas Road. Nothing was stolen.
A Cottage Grove man reported Dec. 11 that two tackle boxes were stolen from a garage in the 8100 block of East Point Douglas Road. There was no value listed for the stolen items. The suspect forced entry to the garage, according to the police report.
Drunken driving
A Woodbury woman was arrested for alleged drug and drunken driving violations following a late-night incident in Cottage Grove. Police were called to the 8600 block of East Point Douglas Road about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 24 on a report of a woman passed out in a vehicle. Police subsequently arrested Karen A. Aubin, 48, on suspicion of third-degree drunken driving and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. She allegedly possessed a bottle of Oxycodone medication prescribed to someone else, according to police. She was booked in Washington County jail.
A 21-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for fourth-degree drunken driving and possession of drug paraphernalia after he allegedly drove through three yards near Hamlet Avenue and 95th Street about 8:20 p.m. Nov. 26. The man drove through the yards and nearly hit one of the homes, according to police. His vehicle was parked in the 9700 block of Hamlet Avenue when he was cited.
A Cottage Grove man was jailed on suspicion of drunken driving following a reported crash Dec. 12. A woman called police shortly after 5 p.m. to report that her vehicle was struck by another driver on 80th Street near Highway 61. Police located the other driver, Leonard M. Lund, 51, and arrested him on suspicion of third-degree drunken driving. He was booked into the Washington County jail.
Food complaint
A woman called police Nov. 28 to report a complaint about the food she received at a Cottage Grove fast food restaurant. Police referred her to the restaurant manager.
Assault
A 16-year-old Cottage Grove male was issued a juvenile ticket for fifth-degree assault after he punched a 15-year-old Cottage Grove male at Park High School on Nov. 27.
Suspicious activity
Police responded on Nov. 28 to the intersection of Hillside Trail and Jamaica Avenue to remove a sign that had been placed there that named someone was “a drug snitch.” Police said a few similar signs have been left at other intersections recently.
Disturbance
A 24-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for disturbing the peace after police were called to a home in the 9200 block of Hale Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. Dec. 2 on a report of loud music and loud voices.
Theft
Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $47 gas drive-off on Dec. 7.
A Cottage Grove woman reported Dec. 8 that someone broke a window on her vehicle parked at Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave., and stole a purse and its contents valued at a total of $380. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $300. Some of the stolen credit cards were used in Woodbury a short time after the theft, according to the report.
A Newport woman reported Dec. 9 that her purse was stolen from a vehicle parked at Snap Fitness, 8700 East Point Douglas Road. The loss was estimated at $76.
Police received a report Dec. 13 that someone broke a window on a vehicle parked at Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park, 9940 East Point Douglas Road, and stole a gym bag with contents valued at $375. The damage was estimated at $200.
Police received a report Dec. 13 that a purse was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 11000 block of West Point Douglas Road. No value was listed for items stolen.
Road rage
Police were called Dec. 8 after a male pedestrian reported that he was nearly struck by a passing truck while walking in a crosswalk near Cub Foods on East Point Douglas Road. No citations were issued.
Fire
Police and fire crews were called at 2:02 p.m. Dec. 9 to 70th Street near Hinton Avenue for a report of a snowmobile that was on fire. Nobody was injured.
