A driver suffering from a medical emergency crashed his car into the front of a Cottage Grove home Thursday afternoon.

The male driver was not seriously injured in the crash, nor were occupants of the home who were inside watching TV at the time, Cottage Grove authorities said.

The driver struck mailboxes along the 8700 block of Ingersoll Avenue about a block before he left the road, drove up the front yard at 8345 88th St. S. and hit the home’s concrete front steps. The front of the car was damaged.

An airbag deployed in the car and the driver did not suffer any serious visible injuries, Cottage Grove Fire Chief Rick Redenius said. There were no passengers.

The driver was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities could not immediately confirm the driver’s medical emergency or his age.

The crash happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. 88th Street is a few blocks from Hillside Elementary School.
