Cottage Grove decks its new Hall

The scene was new -- and the tree a tad smaller -- but dozens of bundled-up revelers gathered again Wednesday evening for the city of Cottage Grove's yearly Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The scene was new -- and the tree a tad smaller -- but dozens of bundled-up revelers gathered again Wednesday evening for the city of Cottage Grove's yearly Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Cottage Grove's fourth-annual holiday kick-off was the first to flip on Christmas lights at the new, recently-opened Cottage Grove City Hall/Public Safety building at 12800 Ravine Parkway.

In previous years, Public Works employees decorated a decades-old tree that towered over the former city hall along 80th Street; this year, officials decorated a tree planted in order to keep up the city's budding Christmastime tradition.

"This is something you'll be seeing for years to come," Mayor Myron Bailey told a chilly group of attendees, "and it'll be fun to watch it grow."

Park High School choir members entertained the crowd with Christmas songs and local frozen yogurt and coffee shop Yo-Joe's provided coffee, hot chocolate and sweets.
