Park boys basketball: Wolfpack tripped up by Knights in opener

The Park boys basketball tipped off the season at home last week, falling to non-conference opponent Irondale 61-43 in the 2012-13 opener.

The Park boys basketball tipped off the season at home last week, falling to non-conference opponent Irondale 61-43 in the 2012-13 opener.

The Wolfpack (0-1) are fielding a youthful lineup this season. Its lone senior is forward Mike Broskoff.

Nine different players scored for Park in the loss. The Wolfpack was led by sophomore guard Anthony Juba, who had eight points. Junior Sully Brenke and junior Jake Bjornson each scored six points and sophomore Kaleb Fischer chipped in five points.

In the game, Park was down just three points, 29-26, at the half. However, Irondale (1-0) outscored the Wolfpack 32-17 in the second half.

Park took on North St. Paul on Tuesday, Dec. 4, after the Bulletin went to print. Next up, the Wolfpack heads to South St. Paul to take on the Packers on Friday, Dec. 7. Park beat South St. Paul 60-45 last year, but have lost 22 straight games since then.
