Newport police say they are investigating a possible double stabbing but are not getting cooperation from the victims.
The investigation started with one possible stabbing on Nov. 22 but expanded when a second victim was identified.
Newport Police Chief Curt Montgomery said in a news release that Regions Hospital in St. Paul notified police shortly after 6 a.m. Nov. 22 of a possible stabbing in Newport. The victim was at Regions.
In an initial report, the victim was stabbed at an unknown St. Paul bar, but the story later changed and the victim may have been stabbed in the 900 block of 12th Street in Newport. The victim would not cooperate with a Newport police officer investigating the incident and did not want to press charges.
A second stabbing victim also was at the hospital but has not cooperated with the police investigation, Montgomery said.
Police did not immediately release further information about the victims or the incident.
Montgomery said his department is still trying to investigate and determine whether criminal charges can be filed.
