After the final meet last year, fifth-year head coach Amanda Johnson said it was the best season for the Wolfpack boys swimming and diving team in her time as coach.
This winter, Park is looking to build on that momentum.
Park went 3-9 overall and 2-8 in the Suburban East Conference last season. The Wolfpack also finished a solid sixth as a team at the Section 4AA championship meet. Individually, 2012 graduate Travis Dorsch made the biggest splash, breaking the school’s 30-year-old record in the 100-yard breastroke, while earning a trip to the state meet. Dorsch was the first male swimmer from Park to advance to the state meet since Ty Nordtvedt advanced to the 2004 meet in two events.
This year, however, Park will be without Dorsch and fellow 2012 grads Connor Rand and Matt Denn, who were key swimmers.
Back with the ‘Pack this year are some of its top competitors from last winter, including Adam Raymond, Eric Solem, Jarrett Mansergh, Sean Gill, Nate Pearson, Matt Henry and Nick Germscheid.
Gill, Henry and Pearson will captain the team this season.
Raymond advanced to the 500 freestyle finals at sections last season, while Henry took 10th in the 200 freestyle and Germscheid led Park’s divers with 270.10 points for ninth place.
Park beat Roseville and White Bear Lake last season. This year, the Wolfpack would like to repeat the feat along with taking down Forest Lake.
Park kicks off the year on Thursday, Dec. 6, in the annual Suburban East Conference relays at Stillwater Junior High School. Other key meets include the Tartan Invitational on Jan. 26 and the regular-season finale at home against White Bear Lake on Thursday, Feb. 7.
