Newport City Administrator Brian Anderson has been named a finalist for the top administrative job with the city of Faribault. Officials there will make decision Dec. 11.
Newport City Administrator Brian Anderson has been named a finalist for the top administrative job with the city of Faribault.
Anderson, who was hired by Newport in 2009 after serving as an assistant city administrator with Lakeville, interviewed publicly Tuesday with the Faribault City Council and is one of two candidates from whom elected officials there will choose on Dec. 11, the Faribault Daily News reported Wednesday.
“It just seemed like an opportunity to pursue,” Anderson told the Bulletin Wednesday.
Faribault, a city of 23,500 located in south central Minnesota, is not the first city administrator post Anderson has been linked with in his three-plus years in Newport. A Farmington resident, he was also candidate for that city’s top staff position last year.
During his interview Tuesday, Anderson cited his experience in reacting to steep cuts in state aid dollars to Newport and 16 years in city government that began as a utility maintenance worker as strengths, according to the Daily News.
Anderson and fellow finalist Aaron Reeves, city administrator for the city of Cannon Falls, will submit to psychiatric evaluations before the Faribault City Council votes on an appointment next month.
