More than a dozen people from four cities want to serve on the South Washington County School Board.
District 833 received applications from 14 people who want to fill a one-year term created by the upcoming resignation of board Chairwoman Leslee Boyd. The application period ended Monday.
The applicants include Cottage Grove residents Sue Berthiaume, Rick Goecke, Mike Heavner, Steve Lagoon, William Thurmes and Stacey Vogele; Woodbury residents Dick Hanson, Jonathan Hunt, Marisa Novak, Daryl Parks, Joseph Ryan and Lisa Vaske; Newport resident Katie McElwee-Stevens; and Katie Schwartz of St. Paul Park.
McElwee-Stevens previously served on the board. Lagoon, Ryan and Schwartz have unsuccessfully run in previous board elections.
District 833 School Board members soon will decide on a screening and interview process. A selection is expected at the Dec. 20 board meeting.
The appointed board member will serve from Jan. 1, 2013, until the November 2013 School Board election.
Boyd, of Woodbury, is stepping down in December because she is moving to Oklahoma.
