Cottage Grove police reports for Nov. 9: Theft, burglary, property damage, assaultA round-up of recent criminal activity in Cottage Grove.

Cottage Grove Middle School, 9775 Indian Blvd., reported Oct. 12 that $7 was stolen from a student’s locker. A 12-year-old Cottage Grove male student was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 15 that someone stole 15 cents from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 7800 block of Hemingway Avenue.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 17 that a 1995 Buick Park Avenue was stolen from a residence in the 6700 block of Timber Ridge Court. The car was valued at $2,500, and had not been located. It was not clear if the vehicle was locked at the time of the theft, but a spare key had been left inside.
A 13-year-old Cottage Grove boy was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft Oct. 17 after police were told of a stolen iPod from a locker room at Cottage Grove Middle School, 9775 Indian Blvd. The music device was returned to the owner.
A Lindstrom, Minn., man reported Oct. 20 that his wallet was stolen while he was at Mississippi Dunes Golf Links, 10351 Grey Cloud Trail.
A St. Paul man reported Oct. 21 that two vehicles were broken into in the 8400 block of Granada Avenue. There was no sign of forced entry. A GPS device and tools were stolen. Total loss estimated at $894.
Police were called to Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, for an attempted shoplifting on Oct. 21. A woman left the store with a drill. She was stopped by store employees and handed the drill over. She left before police arrived.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 21 that someone stole six small pumpkins and two large pumpkins from a home in the 8300 block of Glenbrook Avenue.
Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported a shoplifting incident Oct. 22. A suspect stole two laser levels valued at $180. Police were given partial license plate information but could not locate the suspect.
Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $49 gas drive-off Oct. 24.
A woman went to the Cottage Grove Police Department on Oct. 12 to report that she had been followed by a male driver from Stillwater. The woman was hired by a bank to photograph foreclosed homes, and one of the homeowners got in a vehicle and followed her until she stopped at the police department. Police talked to the man, but he was not cited.
A resident in the 7900 block of 75th Street reported Oct. 13 that she noticed that several items were moved throughout her house. She noticed the next day that a basement window had been removed. She reported a total loss of $92 in coins, a book and a pen.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 13 that someone egged a home and spread toilet paper on the property in the 8600 block of Hilo Trail.
Police are investigating an Oct. 13 complaint of child abuse at a home in the 9700 block of 85th Street.
A Cottage Grove woman reported Oct. 14 that a window was broken on a vehicle in the parking lot at Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road. No damage amount listed.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 14 that a basement window was broken on a home in the 7500 block of Hyde Avenue. No damage amount listed.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 17 that a tire was slashed on a vehicle parked in the 7800 block of Hearthside Avenue. Damage: $100.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 19 that someone threw a pumpkin at a vehicle, breaking the windshield and causing $500 damage, in the 6500 block of Bluestem Lane.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 20 that someone damaged a mailbox in the 7000 block of Irvin Avenue. Damage: $150.
A Cottage Grove resident was reminded of the city’s burning policy after trying to burn a box-spring mattress and garbage at a property near the intersection of Highway 61 and Manning Avenue. No citation was issued.
Christopher R. Knowles, 51, of Minneapolis, was arrested on suspicion of offering a forged check after police were called Oct. 15 to Merchants Bank, 7200 East Point Douglas Road, for a report of a man attempting to cash a forged check. Knowles was booked into Washington County jail.
A Cottage Grove man was arrested for alleged domestic assault following an incident at 2 a.m. Oct. 21 at a home in the 8500 block of Indahl Avenue. Police were called to the home after Billy Joe L. Jessen, 31, allegedly hit a 28-year-old Cottage Grove woman in the face with an open hand, according to the report. He was arrested on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault and transported to Washington County jail.
A St. Paul man was arrested for allegedly punching a woman and breaking a bottle over her head. Chad M. Brown, 22, was arrested about 6:40 a.m. Oct. 21 at a home in the 6700 block of 85th Street. Police were called to the home after Brown allegedly punched a 19-year-old Cottage Grove woman in the face several times and hit her over the head with a bottle, causing the bottle to break, Brown was charged with fifth-degree domestic assault.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Oct. 19 that someone had tampered with a vehicle parked in the 6700 block of Timber Ridge Court. Nothing was stolen.
A Cottage Grove resident in the 8100 block of Homestead Avenue reported Oct. 24 that an unlocked vehicle had been tampered with, but nothing was stolen.
A Cottage Grove resident in the 8200 block of Hemingway Avenue reported Oct. 24 that an unlocked vehicle had been tampered with, but nothing was stolen.
A 14-year-old Cottage Grove girl was issued a juvenile citation for minor consumption shortly before midnight Oct. 21 after police were called to Lamar Park, 7077 Lamar Ave., on a report of suspicious activity. The girl was found on her bike near the park.
A woman called police Oct. 24 to report that her son saw an older man running from a weeded area by houses near 80th Street and Jenner Avenue while carrying a bag of clothes and clothes hangers. The man got into a vehicle and left the area. The incident happened about 7 a.m. but was reported about eight hours later. The man was not located.
