Susan DeMarco VanderHeyden, 47
Died Oct. 27, 2012
Our beautiful Sue, age 47, of Afton, spent her last hours as she lived, surrounded by her loving and spirited family and friends. On the afternoon of Oct. 27, 2012, Sue went into the arms of our gentle and compassionate God. Sue lived with cancer her way, keeping it real, yet inspiring and continuing to teach all of us how to live with grace, joy, and gratitude, in spite of the challenges she faced. Sue was an amazing bright light in this world with her beautiful blue eyes, gorgeous smile, and joy-filled laugh that will be carried in all of our hearts forever.
Sustained in life and cherished by her husband, Joe, and precious children, Jake and Linzie. Also survived and so loved by her father, Robert DeMarco; brother, Paul (Jenny) DeMarco; sisters, Kathi (Andy) Buss, Patty (Merle) Schank, Karen (David) Ackert, and the rest of Sue's Sassy Sisterhood, Colleen Grewenow, Sally Chial, and Lori VanderHeyden. Also survived by her mother-in-law, Jackie VanderHeyden; sister-in-law, Jean; brothers-in-law, Tony (Chris), Bill (Teresa), John (Michelle), Jim (Lori); and her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded in death and welcomed into heaven by her mother, Gerry DeMarco, and father-in-law, Bob VanderHeyden.
Sue's family wishes to thank Dr. Kevin Mulvey and the wonderful staff at St. John's Cancer Care for their gentle compassion and loving care. We are also so grateful to Sue's Affirming Life Support Group at St. John's who supported and guided her with their wisdom and love during her journey.
A celebration of Sue's life was held at Crossroads Church, Woodbury.
