A former Cottage Grove police officer now working as a St. Paul police officer was shot while on duty Tuesday.
The officer, Daniel King, was reportedly in stable condition. He had surgery Wednesday.
King, who lives in Hastings, worked as a Cottage Grove police officer and paramedic from February 2000 to November 2001, when he left for a job with the St. Paul Police Department, according to Cottage Grove police Capt. Pete Koerner.
The shooting happened late Tuesday. At around 11 p.m., St. Paul police officers were called to a home on the report of a theft. At about 11:30 p.m., two officers saw a man that matched the description of the suspect. After officers stopped, the man opened fire. The suspect was fatally shot by officers.
The incident occurred at 720 Payne Avenue in St. Paul.
