Park girls swimming & diving: Wolfpack take on rival Raptors, fall 95-80

The Park girls swimming and diving team competed in a pair of meets last week. The Wolfpack took on rival East Ridge in a Suburban East Conference dual meet on Thursday before hitting the pool for the True Team Section 3AA Meet on Saturday.

Park was downed 95-80 by the Raptors in their head-to-head meet, before taking sixth place with 216 points in the six-team section True Team meet. East Ridge won the Section 3AA True Team championship with 1,007 points, edging Rosemount (980) and Woodbury (920).

In Park’s head-to-head meet against East Ridge, the Raptors mathematically won the meet with four events remaining.

Park’s best event was the diving competition, where sophomore Sarah Schank finished in first place with 187.15 points to garner six points. Also, Park’s Kyle Doty took fourth place for two more points with a score of 105.60. East Ridge’s Olivia Burleigh (185.20) took second place.

Park’s top swimming event of the meet was the 100-yard breaststroke, where the Wolfpack’s Marit Christianson, a senior, took first place with a time of 1 minute, 22.81 seconds for six points. In addition, Park’s Kelsey Fox earned one point, taking fifth place (1:34.22).

Park also did well in the 50-yard freestyle, where the Wolfpack earned five points. Park sophomore Maddy McNearney took second place in the event with a time of 27.43 seconds. Also, Park’s Peyton Adams earned one point by coming in fifth place (29.72).

In the relays, Park fared well in the 200-yard free relay, where the team of McNearney, Hannah Munson, Sierra Oden and Adams earned third place with a time of 1:56.09. The Wolfpack’s 200 medley relay team of Alexandra Burd, Christianson, Adams and Sarah Forthun also earned a third-place finish with a time of 2:20.45 in the event.

At the section True Team meet, where every athlete competing earns points toward their team’s total, McNearney led the way for Park, taking 12th place in the 50 free with a time of 27.38 earning 13 points. In addition, Burd took 14th place in the 500 free with a time of 6:06.55 for 11 points.

Park hosted Hastings on Tuesday, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, Park takes on Woodbury at Cottage Grove Middle School on Thursday.
