You can’t make it up.
The Park girls soccer team has been to three section finals in the past five years. In each of those championships, Park has played Eastview. And in each of those games Eastview has beaten the Wolfpack in a shootout.
Park, the No. 2 seed in the Section 3AA tournament, was denied its first trip to the state tournament in 20 years after top-seeded and fifth-ranked Eastview (13-3-1)outscored the Wolfpack 3-1 in the shootout, after the two teams played to a 0-0 tie after regulation and two 10-minute sudden-death overtime periods in the Section 3AA championship game on Tuesday night at Park High School.
It was the fourth time in the past five years Eastview – the defending Section 3AA champion – has ended Park’s season in the playoffs, including beating the Wolfpack in back-to-back section finals in 2008 and 2009. Both those section championships came down to shootouts.
The state champion in 1990, Park hasn’t reached a state tournament since 1992.
Park, which didn’t allow a goal in three section playoff games, finished the season 11-4-3 overall.
