U.S. Sen. Al Franken will tour two Cottage Grove school programs and a window manufacturer on Monday, a day after he visited town to support DFL candidate.
Franken will visit Crestview Elementary School Monday afternoon to learn about its literacy programs and Nuevas Fronteras to observe the Spanish immersion program. Nuevas Fronteras and Crestview are in the same building at 7830 80th St. He will tour there beginning at 1:45 p.m. Franken, who serves on the Senate education committee, is scheduled to meet with an AmeriCorps Reading Corps volunteer while he is at Crestview.
The Democratic senator also is scheduled to tour the Renewal by Andersen facility in the Cottage Grove business park to learn about its energy efficient windows. Franken is touting his Back to Work Minnesota initiative that attempts to boost sales and jobs at window manufacturers by promoting window retrofits in existing buildings, according to his office.
That tour is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Renewal facility at 9900 Jamaica Ave.
Campaign event
Those are official visits, but Franken also was in Cottage Grove on Sunday for campaign reasons. Franken helped raise money and support for Dan Schoen, the DFL candidate for state House in District 54A, and other Democrats at an event at American Motorsports Bar and Grill.
Schoen’s Republican opponent, Derrick Lehrke, held a fundraiser earlier this fall that featured Marty Seifert, a former GOP House minority leader and 2010 candidate for governor.
