Park freshman runner Cameron Anderson stole the show at the recent Rogers Invitational.
Anderson finished in first place out of 38 runners in the six-team race, held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Fox Hollow Golf Course in St. Michael.
Anderson ran a time of 15 minutes, 52.5 seconds to win the 4K race, something longtime Park head coach Mike Moran hasn’t happened in “several years.”
The Park girls were shorthanded as a team and despite Anderson’s first-place finish, the Wolfpack took sixth place overall with 100 place points. Spectrum won the race with 61 place points.
“We had several injuries and other things that kept the girls from a full squad,” Moran said. “They would have won the race if we were at full strength. “
Turning in Park’s second-best time was senior Brooke Anderson, who ran a time of 17:07 to take ninth place overall. Freshman Taylor Rumpca was the third Wolfpack runner across the finish line, with a time of 17:33.7 to take 15th place. Eighth grader Danielle Pierre and junior Ellie Figlemiller rounded out the Wolfpack’s top five finishers, taking 37th and 38th overall.
In the boys race, Park finished in sixth place out of 10 teams with 148 place points. With 40 points, Monticello finished in first.
Park junior Evan Bonneson had the Wolfpack’s top finish, taking 20th place overall out of 73 runners with a time of 17:59 in the 5K. Park sophomore Ryan Tolkinen wasn’t far back, taking 23rd place with a time of 18:03.9. Senior Cade Fishbaugher (18:24.2), junior Conner Gabbert (18:52.6) and eighth grader Scott Burazin (19:01.9) rounded out the Wolfpack’s top five – in 30th, 37th and 38th overall, respectively.
“For the team we had 28 kids get a top five time for their career and 15 of those had a personal best,” Moran said.
Next, the Suburban East Conference Championships will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Falcon Ridge Golf Course in Stacy and the Section 3AA Championship race will take place the following week on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley.
