The Park varsity bowling team went 1-1 in last week’s competition at Cedarvale Lanes in Eagan.

High school bowling competitions are done using the “Baker” style of bowling. In a Baker game, five players bowl with each individual bowling two frames. The first bowler bowls the first and sixth frames, the second bowler bowls the second and seventh frames and so on, with the fifth bowler bowling the fifth and 10th frames. In this manner, one entire game is bowled. A match consists of five games, with the first team to win three games being the winner. There is no individual competition.

Last week, Park beat St. Thomas Academy 3-2 in the first match, before falling 4-1 to South St. Paul in the Wolfpack’s second match. Park is now 3-7 on the season.

Park’s top JV team remained undefeated at 10-0 through five weeks. They beat the only other undefeated team from South St. Paul in their first match and also beat St. Thomas Academy. The No. 2 JV team went 0-2, losing to Henry Sibley and St. Croix Central and is now 4-6 overall.

Based on fill percentage (spares and strikes divided by total frames bowled), the top two bowlers for the Park varsity team this season are Hannah Munson and Nick Backer. Brianna Huspek and Sophie Jerry are leading the Park JV No. 1 team, while Josh Mauer and Justin Darst are leading the JV No. 2 team.

Park’s home match will be on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Park Grove Bowl.
