Park girls swimming & diving: Wolfpack sunk by Bears

The youthful Park girls swimming and diving team fell 98-77 to White Bear Lake in a Suburban East Conference meet last week. The Bears led 98-39 at one point and swam the meet’s final three events as exhibitions against a Wolfpack lineup boasting only five seniors.

Park’s highest point total in an event came in the diving competition, where the Wolfpack earned nine of a possible 13 points. Park sophomore Sarah Schank earned first place in the event – the Wolfpack’s lone gold medal on the night – scoring 154.55 points. Park sophomore Gabby Page finished in third place, as well, scoring 119.60 points.

In swimming events, Park had three second-place finishes. The Wolfpack’s Hannah Munson, a junior, earned second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 21.11 seconds. White Bear Lake’s Clair Reigh Braaten won the event in 2:08.69. In the 100-yard butterfly, Park sophomore Maddy McNearney earned second place with a time of 1:16.98, just back of White Bear Lake’s Kayla Foss who won with a time of 1:12.34. Also, in the 500-yard freestyle, Park senior Marit Christianson took second place with a time of 6:12.20. Braaten won the event in 5:41.23.

Also, Park senior Sarah Schiemann earned third place in the 50-yard freestyle, junior Peyton Adams took third place in the 100-yard freestyle and sophomore Alexandra Burd was third in the 100-yard backstroke. In addition to her second-place finish in the 100 fly, McNearney also took fourth place in the 200 individual medley.

In relay events, Park’s 400-yard relay of Burd, Makayla Erickson, Munson and Morgan Fox placed second with a time of 4:29.49. White Bear Lake’s 400 relay team was first in a time of 4:20.85. In other relays, Park’s 200-yard medley relay finished in third place and the Wolfpack’s 200-yard relay was third.

Next, the Wolfpack is at Cretin-Derham Hall on Thursday.
