A woman allegedly hit her ex-boyfriend with her car twice outside a Cottage Grove home.
Deanna D. Wiggs, 35, of Eagan, was charged in Washington County District Court with two counts of felony second-degree assault in connection with the Sept. 7 incident.
According to the criminal complaint: Cottage Grove police were called to 7320 Jewel Ave., on a report that a male was hit by a vehicle. Officers found a woman later identified as Wiggs sitting next to a man who was lying on his stomach. The man was Wiggs’ ex-boyfriend.
Wiggs immediately told officers: “I hit him with my car.”
The victim, who police said was in extreme pain and had an “obvious deformity” to his right leg, said he had tried to end their relationship but Wiggs would not take “no for an answer,” according to the complaint.
The victim said they argued earlier that day and Wiggs keyed his vehicle when she left. Wiggs then returned and while the man was standing behind his vehicle in the driveway, Wiggs drove her car forward very fast and hit him. He screamed, and then Wiggs backed up and drove forward again, hitting him a second time. He fell to the ground and was later transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital.
A neighbor told police she witnessed the argument and saw Wiggs hit the man with her car.
Wiggs admitted she keyed the man’s car and that she hit him twice with her vehicle, but said she thought the vehicle was in reverse when she stepped on the gas and hit the man, the complaint says. She was arrested and booked into Washington County jail.
Wiggs was charged Sept. 10 with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon that causes substantial bodily harm.
