Last season was filled with numerous personal bests and steady improvement from Park’s cross country runners, and head coach Mike Moran is hoping to build on that this season.
In 2011, the Park girls cross country team’s season came to an end with an 11th place finish out of 15 teams in the section meet.
Park’s Cameron Anderson and Bailey Aasen, who each earned All-Conference honorable mention last fall, were the Wolfpack’s top two finishers. The duo returns to lead the ‘Pack this season.
Anderson, who is now a freshman, was 26th at the section meet as an eighth grader – the top finish by a Park runner – just 15 spots away from making the state meet. Aasen, now a sophomore, was the Wolfpack’s second-best finisher at the section meet, coming in 57th overall.
Other top returners for Park this season include: Sophomore Rebekah Schulte, seniors Larissa Lurken, Brooke Anderson and Annie Lisson and freshman Taylor Rumpca. Brooke Anderson will be the girls team captain this year.
Top girls teams in the Suburban East Conference are expected to be East Ridge and Roseville. East Ridge is the two-time defending SEC champion. In the section, the teams to beat are believed to be Rosemount, Eastview and Burnsville.
Key races for the Park girls include: Thursday, Sept. 6, at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, Sept. 22, and the SEC Championships on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
