The last three years have been tough for the Park volleyball team. But this fall, head coach R.T. Luczak will try to turn things around in his second year with the team.
After finishing 12-13 overall in 2008, Park has gone three years without a win in the Suburban East Conference. The Wolfpack is a combined 0-27 in conference play and 4-70 overall over the past three seasons.
Last year’s team went 2-20, which was a bit of an improvement over back-to-back 2-25 seasons. The wins came over Concordia Academy of Roseville and Bethany Academy in tournament play. Last fall, the Wolfpack earned the 12th seed in the 12-team Section 3AAA tournament and had its season ended by fifth-seeded Eastview in the opening round of playoffs.
Returning from last year’s team, and expected to lead the way in 2012, are senior setter Elizabeth Vomastek and junior middle hitter Sydney Lamberty. Other projected starters are senior outside hitter Carli Pederson and junior hitters Jacquelyn Bennett, Mikayla Jones and Lauren Van Gerpen.
The Wolfpack opens the season with a tournament at Park High School on Saturday, Sept. 8. Park’s first conference game of the year will come on the road on Thursday, Sept. 13, at rival Woodbury.
