St. Paul Park police reports for Aug. 31: Auto theft, assault, suspicious behavior, vandalism

Recent criminal activity in St. Paul Park.

Auto theft

A St. Paul Park man reported July 31 that his Chevy Malibu was stolen from his driveway in the 1200 block of Ashland Avenue. The car was located on Highway 61 and returned to the owner.

A Woodville, Wis., woman told police Aug. 13 that someone stole her vehicle after she left it in an alley near Oltman Middle School. The woman put the keys under the driver’s seat, left the doors unlocked and windows rolled down. When she returned, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire was gone, according to the report.

Suspicious activity

Police were called Aug. 8 to Axelrod Park in the 400 block of Pullman Avenue on a report of juveniles with fireworks in a portable toilet. Police located to juvenile males, who admitted to having set off illegal fireworks inside the toilet. The fireworks were confiscated and the kids’ parents notified.

Assault

A St. Paul Park man was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault after he allegedly assaulted his sister during a July 26 fight at a home in the 1300 block of Chicago Avenue.

Police were called to a home in the 500 block of Summit Avenue on July 23 for a reported domestic assault. A woman at the home reported that a man known to her had choked her and took her cellphone from her when she tried to call police. He left the home before police arrived. Charges are pending upon his arrest.

A Cottage Grove man was cited for fifth-degree assault and transported to a detox facility after he allegedly assaulted his cab driver.

A St. Paul Park man told police about 2 a.m. Aug. 2 that he had been assaulted. The man said he was having a discussion with a St. Paul Park man he knew but did not get along with when the man took a swing at him. As the two started fighting, another man jumped in and punched and kicked the victim. The victim said the two men then left in a car. He later told police he did not want to pursue charges because it could create further problems.

Property damage

Aggregate Industries, 10120 Grey Cloud Island Drive, reported Aug. 9 that someone entered the plant overnight and tampered with equipment and stole a shovel.

Hidden Harbor, 388 Ninth Ave., reported a damaged vending machine on Aug. 15.

Vandalism

Simeks, 940 Hastings Ave., reported Aug. 9 that someone painted graffiti on the side of the building the previous night.

Car fire

Police were called Aug. 7 to the 1200 block of Sixth Street for a reported car fire. When crews arrived they found the interior of a vehicle fully engulfed in a parking lot. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Stillwater. Firefighters extinguished the fire.
