Recent criminal activity in Newport.
Vehicle tampering
A woman told police Aug. 15 that someone had gone through a vehicle parked on First Avenue and stole change and a flashlight sometime the previous night.
Drugs
Police were called to SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., on Aug. 13 after a clerk reported that a customer dropped a baggie that contained a white/brown substance. Police recovered the baggie; the contents tested positive for methamphetamine. No arrest was made.
