Cottage Grove police reports for Aug. 30

Recent criminal activity in Cottage Grove.

Suspicious activity

Police were called to Lamar Fields in Old Cottage Grove around 5 p.m. Aug. 5 on a report of suspicious activity. An officer found a man and woman engaged in sexual activity in a vehicle. They were told to leave.

Police were called about 8:30 p.m. Aug. 9 to Armstrong Elementary School, 8855 Inwood Ave., on a report of people entering the school. Police got there and saw a group of juvenile males leaving the scene on bikes. They did not respond to police orders to stop and could not be located. Police found an open door to the building. A K9 dog checked the building but found nothing suspicious.

A Cottage Grove woman called police Aug. 10 after someone tied a bag to her front door in the 7800 block of 74th Street. The bag contained a newspaper article about hoarding.

Theft

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 17 that multiple items including a lawnmower and leaf blower were stolen from an attached garage in the 8200 block of Henslowe Avenue. Loss is not listed.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 17 that someone stole tools ($320) from an open garage at a home in the 7000 block of 92nd Street.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 18 that two purses were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 7200 block of Joplin Avenue. Loss: $200.

A Fridley woman reported Aug. 18 that a large bag with miscellaneous personal items was stolen from a home in the 9800 block of 71st Street. Later that night some of the clothing from the bag was found spread out in residential streets in the area.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 19 that a cellphone device was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 8000 block of 77th Street.

A Cottage Grove man reported Aug. 19 that a knife, binoculars and folding tool were stolen from a locked vehicle in the 8200 block of 77th Street. There was no sign of damage to the vehicle. Loss: $110.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 19 that someone stole a GPS device form a vehicle parked in the 7800 block of Irish Avenue. No value listed.

A woman reported Aug. 19 that her iPhone was stolen from a counter at theAlley Church, 7795 Ivystone Ave. Loss: $600.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 20 that a safe was stolen from a home in the 7200 block of Janero Avenue. Cash, gift cards and medication were in the stolen safe. Loss: $375. No suspects.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 19 that someone cut a garden hose and stole a sprinkler in the 8000 block of 71st Street. Loss: $125.

Pedestrian accident

A 12-year-old Cottage Grove boy was transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul after he was struck by a car shortly before 5 p.m. Aug. 20 at 80th Street and Jensen Avenue. The boy apparently darted into the street in front of a vehicle. The female driver was not cited. The boy suffered only minor injuries, according to police.

Assault

A 43-year-old Minneapolis man was arrested Aug. 20 on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault after he allegedly pushed his 69-year-old father at a home in the 8300 block of Grafton Avenue. The father, who lives at the residence, was knocked to the ground, possibly causing fractured ribs, according to the police report. He was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul.
