Cottage Grove police reports for Aug. 22: drugs, scavenging, theft
Recent criminal activity included drugs, scavenging, theft and offending a police officer.
Drugs
A patrol officer found a group of juveniles behind Zion Lutheran Church, 8500 Hillside Trail, around 10 p.m. July 26. A 15-year-old Cottage Grove male was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Offending police officer
Police on Aug. 10 cited a juvenile male for violating the city’s ordinance against offending a peace officer. Officers were called to a home in the 8500 block of Hillside Trail after the homeowner complained about a group of juveniles at the residence. An officer talked to a juvenile male who then swore at the cop, prompting the citation.
Scavenging
A 25-year-old Newport man was cited for scavenging after he was found in a Dumpster in the 8100 block of Hearthside Road shortly after 3 a.m. July 27.
Theft
A Cottage Grove resident reported July 25 that an electric grill was stolen from a back patio at the residence. Loss: $270.
Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave., reported July 25 that a 12-year-old Hastings girl stole $56 worth of merchandise. She was issued a juvenile citation for shoplifting.
A resident in the 7800 block of 76th Street Bay reported July 25 that someone stole a digital music player and keys from an unlocked vehicle. Total loss was estimated at $300. A bike was left at the scene, but it’s not clear who it belonged to.
A Cottage Grove resident reported July 28 that tools were stolen from a truck parked at a home in the 8900 block of Ironwood Avenue. Loss was estimated at $600.
SuperAmerica, 7162 East Point Douglas Road, reported a $49 gas drive-off July 28.
A Cottage Grove resident reported July 31 that a car stereo was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 8400 block of 90th Street. Loss: $70. Damage: $100.
Police were called Aug. 1 to Holiday gas station, 6921 Pine Arbor Drive, for a report of a stolen bike valued at $130. Police located the suspect a week later, after a gas station employee saw him in the store. The bike was recovered. It was not immediately known whether the suspect was ticketed or will face criminal charges.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 4 that a bike was stolen from an unlocked garage at a home in the 7300 block of Janero Avenue. No suspects.
A 16-year-old Cottage Grove male was ticketed for theft Aug. 7 after he allegedly stole condoms from an East Point Douglas Road gas station.
A woman reported Aug. 7 that a purse and a diaper bag were stolen from a vehicle parked at Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road. The items stolen included an iPad, iPod and cash. Total loss: $1,330. The woman said she didn’t know her husband put her purse in the vehicle.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 7 that someone went through two unlocked vehicles parked in the 7600 block of Homestead Avenue and stole less than $10.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 7 that a small amount of change was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 7700 block of Hyde Avenue.
A Cottage Grove woman was prohibited from returning to Zywiec’s Landscape and Garden Center after she was found stealing peppers from a field at 100th Street and Hadley Avenue. The woman told police she thought it was an open field and the peppers could be taken, according to the report.
A 1994 Honda Accord valued at $1,000 was reported stolen Aug. 10 from a home in the 8800 block of 90th Street. It was not recovered.
A man who was selling meat with another man Aug. 11 reported that his friend stole $80 from him and his cellphone when the man went to TCF Bank at Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road, to cash a check.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 12 that someone stole two lawn ornaments valued at $70 from a home in the 8100 block of Ingleside Avenue.
Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $65 gas drive-off Aug. 12.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 13 that a bowling ball and bag were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 8700 block of Greenway Avenue. A vehicle window also was broken.
Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road, reported Aug. 14 that an adult female stole make-up valued at $89. A 44-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for shoplifting and was prohibited from returning to the store.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 14 that a bike was stolen from outside Park High School, 8040 80th St. Someone cut a lock to get the bike.
