Newport police reports for Aug. 17

Recent criminal activity includes property and theft.

Property damage

Xcel Energy, 3000 Maxwell Ave., reported July17 that someone had cut and peeled away fencing on the south side of the property, allowing access to the yard. Several hundred dollars worth of damage was done. Xcel Energy reported similar damage again the following day.

Central Bank, 2104 Hastings Ave., reported July 16 that someone broke a cement bench behind the bank building.

Boyds Motel, 1700 Hastings Ave., reported July 20 that a customer had damaged a motel room. Damage was estimated at $50. The case was sent to the city attorney for review.

Theft

A Newport woman reported July 16 that two children’s bikes were stolen from a residence in the 1100 block of Second Ave.

A woman reported July 13 that someone entered her vehicle parked in the 1200 block of Hastings Avenue and stole a GPS device and $20 cash.

SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., reported July 23 that a male customer entered the store, took a bottled beverage from a cooler and put it down his parents. He left the store without paying for the beverage.

SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., reported July 27 that a woman stole a red rose from the store.
